Greetings-

Congratulations, you have become a member of AFSCME Local 120.  Local 120 represents over 700 workers throughout Pierce County.

Local 120 is made up of 6 different Bargaining Groups:

  • Pierce County
  • The City of Tacoma
  • The Tacoma Pierce County Health Dept The City of Tacoma Library
  • The City of Bonney Lake
  • The City of Orting).

The Executive Board is the governing body of the Local.
The Executive Board meets on the 4th Monday of each month.  These meetings are held at the Pierce County Annex Building.

The Executive Board consists of :

  • President
  • Vice-President
  • Secretary Treasurer
  • Recording Secretary
  • Sergeant At Arms
  • 6 Policy Chairs
  • 3 Trustees

The Local receives a dues rebate from Council 2 (representing all AFSCME County and City Workers in the State of WA). The Executive Board creates a budget for the local and determines how the local's funds will be spent

The Executive Board has several Standing Committees ( which are open to participation by members of the local):

  • Legislative Committee (which deals with political endorsements, and legislative actions),
  • Finance Committee ( which creates the yearly budget),
  • Website Committee (which oversees the Local 120 Website (local120.org )),
  • Pick Nick Committee (which puts on the Annual Pick Nick)
  • Holiday Party Committee (which puts on the Annual Holiday Party every December).

Officers are elected for 2-yr. terms at the General Membership meetings held in December of even numbered years.

Policy Chairs and Policy Group Secretaries are elected for 2-yr. terms at Policy Group meetings held in December of even numbered years.
Trustees (conduct an audit of the Local's books once a year and act in an advisory capacity on the Executive Board) are elected to 3yr. terms at the General Membership Meeting each December.

Policy Groups consist of the Policy Chair, the Policy Group Secretary and the members of that Policy Group.

Policy Groups elect Shop Stewards (Member participation is encouraged), Negotiate Contracts and Enforce those Contracts through the Grievance Procedure.

The Policy groups provide information to the members from the Executive Board and to the Executive Board from the members.

Shop Stewards are the backbone of the union, they enforce the contract and provide a two-way conduit by which information flows to the members from the Policy Groups and from the members to the Policy Groups.

Local 120 is a Democratic Organization where member participation is encouraged at every level and every member has a voice in how the Local is run.

Local 120 is currently represented by Bill Keenan and Dennis Bolton the Staff Representatives (Business Representative) from the State Council (Council 2).
