Longtime Steward David Shaughnessy Retires

Longtime Shop Steward and bargaining team member David Shaughnessy retired on December 31, 2011, after a 23 year career that spanned two rounds of layoffs, closure of the Central Stores where he worked during the 1990's, and a transition to a new IT career.
Dave has been an active member of Local 120's City of Tacoma unit. His Storekeeper job was discontinued in the late 1990's, when Prop. 3 discontinued the Central Stores warehouse. He took on an on the job training program to learn to be a Computer Support Technician, and was eventually promoted to Computer Systems Programmer. He was a Senior IT Analyst when he retired.
We will miss Dave at the bargaining table, and on the job. Good Luck!

Quote of the day: "For a worker to refuse to belong to a union is not to exercise a democratic freedom. It is to accept benefits that others have worked for without contributing to the costs. Democracy flourishes only when freedom is accompanied by responsibility." (Australian Bank Employees Union).
